Homeless and Eviction Prevention

Requirements to qualify for financial assistance

For Eviction Prevention appointments: You must have a court ordered eviction, which is a court Judgment. Also, your housing must be affordable for you. We can not help you stay somewhere that's not affordable. We are designed as a back-up to the Department of Human Services-DHS so you must have applied for a State of Emergency (SER) application with DHS. (see: What appointments must bring)

For Homeless appointments: You must be living in a shelter, living on the street/car/place not meant for human habitation, or have a court order eviction (Judgment). In some extreme cases, we will see you if you are living with family/friends if you have an eviction letter from the person you are staying with that you must be out. (Letter must be dated, signed, and states why you can not stay and that they are kicking you out within the next 7 days). The housing that you find must be affordable so you must have sufficient income. (see: What appointments must bring)

What ALL appointments must bring:

  • Drivers license or ID Card
  • Social Security Numbers for all household members
  • Verification of your housing emergency - for example, a  court judgment, or eviction letter from friends or family *(Letter must be dated, signed, and states why you can not stay and that they are kicking you out within the next 7 days)
  • Verification of your income - for example, check stubs for the past 30 days, or bank statement of direct deposit, or FIP cash grant.
  • If you have: SER decision notice from DHS (Dept. of Human Services), formerly FIA.

For your money management please bring:

  • Receipts for other current expenses -- for example, phone bill, car payment, car insurance, credit card bills, medical bills, or school bills.
  • Know your amount of food stamp benefits per month and who your worker is.
